Not only has Black Ops 3 achieved the number one selling game on current gen consoles, but it also has outperformed its predecessor. It has outsold Advanced Warfare in game sales, downloadable content purchases, the number of monthly users, and in terms of engagement within the game. In terms of revenue, Black Ops 3 generated the most out of all the other Call of Duty games within a 6 month period. So this leaves big shoes to fill for the next Call of Duty games to come, especially from Treyarch.

Speaking of the future, Activision also reported that the next installation in the Call of Duty franchise has already seen a major increase in the amount of presales for the more expensive versions. This increase is undeniably because of the release of Modern Warfare Remastered as they made it so it is only available through preordering with Infinite Warfare. So if you hoped to buy it separate Activision has stated that it will not be out as its own standalone game, and will only be available through buying Infinite Warfare. Because of this decision, Infinite Warfare could dethrone Black Ops 3 as the highest selling game.
